Penny

There was a time I picked you up, and took you from your sleep,
to lay with me in my own bed and watch you when you dream.
There was a time I'd get you dressed, to fix your soft blonde hair,
and pick you out your doll sized clothes, and help with what to wear.
There was a time when your small feet would pitter down the floor,
and wait for me til I was dressed, just sitting by my door.
There was a time I'd pick you up, and hold you on my hips,
and kiss your cheek, your head, your ear, your little baby lips.
There was a time you'd scream for me until I held you close,
and you'd squeeze tight and stay by me, I was your happy dose.
There was a time you'd sit with me and watch me work away,
and every chance I got to make you laugh, I'd go that way.
There was a time you'd fall asleep, with your dreamy smile,
baby palms, baby feet, these memories so worthwhile.

But now I'm gone, and you've grown up, and memories of me faded,
you craved me once, and loved me so, now life has got you jaded.

Don't let life tell you I don't love you, please don't think that I'm in parts,
I love you, my baby sister of mine, you still consume my heart.

This is how to remix

I just had to share this with everyone, it's very important. Not only do I love this because it's the one and only Britney Spears, but this is what I'm talking about when I tell you how important it is to have a kickass buildup and then that special drop. Remixers, take note of the way Gareth Emery handles this song. It's slow at first, but not boring, there is still an exciting beat throughout. Then he tricks us by a windblown buildup, then it just goes back into another verse. THEN. Here comes the chorus, the build up siren that you can't wait til it explodes, and then the explosion of some old school synths and a heavy trance feel.
This just brightened my morning :)

TUNAGE that isn't too good for your well being ;)

I've been in this ridiculously happy mood lately / a mood where I want to pull myself out of this funk I've been struggling with, so I've been surrounding myself with flowers, the colour pink, and light hearted happy music that is honestly starting to make me go insane. So I found some raging beats that I can use in place of doing unhealthy things. Which got me to thinking, isn't so weird how music can control your emotions? I hear one song and I want to go play on the beach with a puppy eating ice cream and I hear another song and I want to be in the center of a dirty rave knocked out of my freaking mind.

Funny how tunes can do that to ya.

Teddy Bears (feat. Trimbal) - Weed in a Rizzla

Uncertain about this song at first because Teddy Bears were the ones who did that super random upbeat song with Robyn that I was highly disappointed in for a while. But then I pushed play and ... it won me over from there. Dirty dark beats with a creepy ass male voice saying "weed in a rizzla"? Yes please! Picture the elevator ride down to a rave and the beats just keep getting louder and pounding in your head the lower the levels you go. This is that song.
What the hell is a rizzla anyway?

Time Takers - She Blows (The Whistle Tune)

Takes a minute or so to get you into that drop, but man, once that bad boy hits it is smooth sailing from there. One of my favorite things to look for in a heavy beat is when they drown out the sound and stick something super random to use as a build up, and this song does it splendidly. You're sitting there thinking, oh this happy, and then BAM! hellooooo dirty dance clubs.

Ayumi Hamasaki - A Song for XX (Ferry Corsten Remix)

I think I've only put a couple foreign songs, but I super dig this one. I haven't heard a good trance tune in quite a minute, and this one is a wonderful, mystical, mysterious, confusing song. I loveeeeeee Ferry Corsten, and just knowing it was HE who made this track amazing makes me so happy and reminds me of my Atlanta days pre-SCAD where Dusty and I would jam to him at all hours of the night. Ahh, memories.

YACHT - Dystopia (BAD DANCR remix)

Save the best for last? OKAY! The original to this is almost just as amazing, but there is something about the remix's opening synths that make this song so very right for this occasion. Heavy heavy dance tune, but one that you can do while wearing cute clothes and maintaining the look you've prepared for yourself for the two hours you spent in the mirror.

A Heart Full of Love

What makes me happy? Other than good music, the beach, the sun, the waves, and my friends, one person has been able to bring out a person in me I thought never existed. I know someone who has an incredible power to make people feel full of worth. He taught me how to love myself, how to love others, and how to be free.

I promise you, that somewhere underneath all of my tainted problems, behind the screwed up reactions, beneath the unforgiving exterior, there is a heart that is full of love. It's willing to love, it wants to be loved, it can love, it will love.
I was shown a glimpse of the most positive life I have ever been exposed to. I had never been so happy in my entire life, I was finally free from harm. And like I always use to say, from all good comes bad, and that is that. But recently I've noticed good does come after bad, but once the good overtakes you, the struggle starts to keep it.
I didn't want to get religious, but I'm a firm believer of evil, and the devil is strong, and the devil knows me too well. So just when I'm in a vulnerable state, the negative force pulls at me from below, and will do anything in it's power to get me to stop being happy. The fight is to say no, and since I give in so easily to darker things, I lean his way, and he wins.
I can't let him almost win again. I must remember that good sprouts from the evil, God is on MY side, God wants ME to win, to fight, to love, and to be with Him when the time comes. I somehow always lose the people I love the most, because I can never win this fight, but I'm not letting it happen anymore. I am meant to be happy. I am meant to be loved. And I'm going to do it.

I sit and watch the clocks, because I know the hour I wait for will come, you just have to wait for it.

Time.
Time collapses. But in the heat of the moment and the emotions that you feel for that matter of time seem like they will last forever. There is that feeling where you count down for the end of the week because this coming weekend there is something happening that you can't wait for. Then Friday rolls around, then Saturday...and eventually Sunday, and that weekend that you couldn't wait to come is gone. And then it happens again, an ebb and flow of excitement and disappointment.
And as I get older time seems to go by quicker, and the excitement for that moment fades faster, and you try to hold on to the moments that you want to last longer, knowing that it will be over in a blink of an eye.
But then again, when something unfortunate knocks at your door, and it seems like the end of the world, I hold my head up, and try to lessen the tears, because it's just time. And time will pass.

The Lighter Music in Life

Get People - Away

This is probably my favorite song at the moment. Those odd end dub and bass noises sucked me right in. I'm in a very summery chill mood, and this song is the epitome of laying on the beach and watching the waves calmly crash in.

Cranberries - Zombie

My roommate came back one weekend and would NOT stop blasting the Cranberries, so she got us all into a 90's mood and we haven't stopped playing it in here since. 'Dreams' by them always reminds me of the Karate Kid III with Hilary Swank. I swear to you they play it in that movie. Anyway, Dolores O'Riordan has one of the best voices of all time, hauntingly brilliant, she is.

Cosmo Memory - Keep the Light in Your Eyes

I don't know what it is about this song! It kind of sounds like a mix of Medic Droid and AnCo or something. The chorus is what got me, though. That slow sexy beat that drives the that smile onto your face and you think of all the happy things in your life right now. And then it wakes you up again.

Sarah Jarosz - My Muse

Ah, I found this song, in the Keys when I was with my boyfriend and his family. I was watching some Chicago tribute something or other and this girl came on and was just an absolute genius with her instruments. And her voice was unbelievable! She's young too! But there was something so passionately dark about her music, I picture her in an old Victorian house with cracked mirrors. Gorgeous.

Stephen Jerkaz feat. Leighton Meester - She Said (feat. Killabits Remix)

Lindsay sent me this song about a week ago, and oh she just knows me too well. Such a good song to do a hip hop routine too, or one to get into trouble too...if you know what I mean. And that drop 'SHE SAID'...yum yum. So then I looked up the Stephen Jerkaz to get the pic for the blog, and he's like a 14 year old emo Warp Tourian. Right? Awkward.

Currently releasing the animal in myself

ARE YOU READY // DO YOU KNOW

Oh Land - Sun of a Gun (Jacob Plant Remix)

I would just recapitulate what I wrote for another website about this song, but I won't plagiarize my own words. A guy that asked me to write a guest spot for his website (thistrack.com) sent me this song to mull over, and see if I could write something about it. As soon as I heard this song, the amount of excitement that filled up my heart exploded. Her voice! That drop! That bass! Those words! OH my, I had this song on repeat for a good week. The fact that Jacob Plant could turn such a sweet voice into something scarily bad ass is unbelievable.

Lady Gaga - Judas (R3HAB Remix)

Okay so I'm extremely hesitant to put up this song. 1: Because it's Gaga. 2: Because the first time I heard it I would have sworn if I died listening to it I would go straight to Hell. BUT, after listening to the words over and over, as much as she is making a mockery of the faith, I think there is a deep sense of understanding within the creature. She notes that Jesus is the correct virtue, but she can't pull away from sin...so it's not exactly anti Catholicism. ANYWAY, I stumbled upon this remix and I fell in love. I can't wait to hear this out (not that they would play it at any of the places I go) but if I did, I would dance my freaking ass off.

Krafty Kuts (ft. Sporty O) - Let's Go Let's Ride (Tim Healy Remix)

1,2,3, microphone check! APC, you always pull through for me. It took me a couple listens at first to get into it, but once I did, it sucked me RIGHT in. This is the best driving song in the world. Windows down, music blasting, ...kids crying in the back seat...it's wonderful!

Johnny Love - Sonora (Udachi Remix)

It's fun. I've been really into Latin/Spanish sounding music lately, considering two of my best friends are from Central America. Which makes me so sad when I have to move back north because there is NO Latin culture where I come from.

Nero - Me & You

Old, but still brilliant. My friend sent me the Phil Harmonic mash up with Nero that occurred only a couple of days ago, and it was absolutely phenomenal. There is no limit to music creation these days. First we started with Rap / Rock mash-ups and now it's Classical / Electro mash-ups. It brings a tear to my eye.
